Characteristics: The territory of the village has been populated since the Stone Age. The name of the settlement was first mentioned in written documents in 1263. The Serbo-Croatian word means 'a place where there is a trench'. First in 1566, then several more times, the Turks leveled the village, but it was re-populated.
Since 1949, the population has been declining. The rate of unemployment is 10%. For centuries, the dominant source of income was agriculture. The market was in Kanizsa. Nagykanizsa, lying close to Nagyrécse, exerts an influence on the life of the village even today: many of the local people work in the town. The proximity of Nagykanizsa is, on the other hand, a guarantee for the development of the village.
